classify and sort animals with free printable

Do your kids love learning about animals? This is my first time making a sorting game, so go easy on me. But I wanted to make one because my oldest just started getting into “matching things”…basically learning what belongs where and why. So, not only are these types of games educational but they are a lot of fun. Perfect for at home or a school activity. Help guide your kids on animals and the habitats they live in.

All about the free Animal Environment Sorting Game:

This is a free sorting and classifying activity to teach children about animals and the environments they live in. This game includes farm animals, ocean animals, polar animals, forest animals, rainforest animals, desert animals and their respective environments. Match the animals up with the environment you think they belong in.

There are five animals per habitat.  Just simply cut out the animals and add them to their correct habitats. The animals have dotted lines around them to guide your kids on where to cut. Also, the animals are already pre-sorted so you don’t need to worry about shuffling them up prior to playing the game.

This is a great activity for a classroom Preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, & First Grade.  So just print out and hand out!

Go ahead and laminate

I recommend laminating all of our matching games. Laminating gives this game a bit more permanence. Kids can put the activity together over and over again without worrying about having to cut each time. I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend.

Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little self-adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!

Format: Our free Animal Environment Sorting Game comes in a PDF format and perfectly sized to print on 8.5″x11″ standard size letter paper. This size and format makes it easy to print on any printer!

Total length of the activity is 5 pages. 2 pages of animal cutouts and 3 pages of animal habitats (cut these in half to make 6 total habitats).

Like I always mention, I recommend laminating these. Why? Because why not? It’s pretty simple to do and it’ll make this free activity last much longer than it normally would.

Below is the proper sorting once the items are cut out and placed in their correct environments. There are a few animals that could live in multiple habitats, like the horse, tree frog, rabbit and reindeer. This is always a good talking point when discussing the animals and their habitats and how certain animals can live in multiple habitats.

Below is what comes with your free sorting game. See the bottom of the page for the actual download instructions (for the high resolution file).

Need some craft supplies?

Amazon has always been my go-to for most of my office and craft supplies. If you print a lot of printables and spend  time coloring, gluing and adding some extra jazz to them, our list of supplies can help!

I’ve split the list up into a basic list and a fancier list if you’re going to put a little more pizazz into your printables.
