free activity for kindergarteners - make a zebra craft

My littlest is 20 months old and he loves animal books and his favorite animal right now is the zebra! We don’t really know why…maybe it’s the spiky mane or the mesmerizing stripes. But either way, I get it. Zebras are cool animals…they are really fun to look at in the same way Dalmatian dogs are. I mean how can you not stare at that beautiful pattern?

Anyway, so my son’s love for zebras is what inspired me to create my next build an animal craft. So whether you or your children love zebras or simply safari or zoo animals….this craft surely will keep your little one happy and busy.

All about the Build-a-Zebra Craft:

This Build-a-Zebra craft features 2 pages:

  1. One page is the zebra without color so he can be colored, cut out and put together. Have fun with this and color your zebra blue or pink!
  2. If your kids aren’t a fan of coloring or maybe you just want to set up a craft that is ultra simple.  There is also a pre-colored version consisting of the classic black and white striped zebra.

With either version, simply cut out the pieces and put the zebra together with a bit of glue/paste. Hang the zebra on the fridge or give it away as a crafty gift. It’s that simple!

This is also a great homeschooling craft for preschoolers or kindergarteners. Not only does it give kids practice with scissors but putting the zebra together teaches kids how to work their brains creatively.

Go ahead and laminate

I recommend laminating all of our Build activities. Laminating gives this craft a bit more permanence. Kids can put the craft together over and over again without worrying about having to cut and color each time. I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend, you literally just turn it on, it heats up, and you’re ready to start laminating anything everything!

I’m also a big fan of the self-sealing laminating pouches! They are super easy! You literally just place your printable in a letter size pouch, run it through the laminator and you have a sealed and long-lasting item!

Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little self-adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!
