build your own cat kids craft

Are you more of a cat person? There’s something awesome about cats – they have a quiet, sly and independent way about them. Plus, the older they get the more of a “lap cat” they become. We have 2 cats in our house, but are dog lovers as well. But whether you’re a fan of cats, dogs or any animal….this cat craft is cute and super fun to put together.

This is also a great craft for any cat-loving kids who don’t have a cat but want one. I get it, having any kind of pet is work and a financial ding. So in the mean time, try out our Build a Cat craft to fill that cat loving place in your heart. This craft will surely keep your little one happy and busy.

All about the Build-a-Cat Craft:

This Build-a-Cat craft features 2 pages:

  • One page is the cat without color so he can be colored, cut out and put together.
  • If your kids aren’t a fan of coloring, there is a pre-colored version consisting of an orange/tabby little cat.

With either version, simply cut out the pieces and put the little cat together with a bit of glue/paste. Hang the cat on the fridge or give it away as a crafty gift. It’s that simple.

This is also a great homeschooling craft for preschoolers or kindergarteners. Not only does it give kids practice with scissors but putting the cat together teaches kids how to work their brains creatively.

Go ahead and laminate

I recommend laminating all of our Build activities. Laminating gives this craft a bit more permanence. Kids can put the craft together over and over again without worrying about having to cut and color each time. I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend, you literally just turn it on, it heats up, and you’re ready to start laminating anything everything!

I’m also a big fan of the self-sealing laminating pouches! They are super easy! You literally just place your printable in a letter size pouch, run it through the laminator and you have a sealed and long-lasting item!

Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little self-adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!

Below is what will be included in your download (see the bottom of the page for actual download instructions):
