Ways to use your Pencil Template & Letters Banner

Use in the classroom as a back to school banner.

It’s back to school time. Print out a welcome sign for your students! Customize your message — the options are limitless. Wish your students a happy first day of school with a cheerful and fun message!

Save on school supplies!

The pencil printable can also be used for various different crafts and activities.

1. Make name tags with your pencil template

Some teachers like to hang name tags for themselves and their students in their classroom.

You can write the names of your students or even have them write their names on a blank pencil. Laminate and use as a name tag for each student. I used a dry-erase marker below. So the student can erase and practice their name again and again.

Idea: You could also write the student’s name on the pencil BEFORE you laminate and then tape to their desk for a long-lasting name tag.

2. Practice color recognition

The pencil printable also includes a free pencil coloring page. Have your students color the blank pencil coloring page with their own colors. Go around the classroom reciting the colors and practice color recognition (plus, learn each other’s favorite colors)!

3. Use the pencil template as stencils.

This activity provides a way to make a DIY name tag, plus practice fine motor skills.

  • Cut out the pencil printable.
  • Fold the pencil in half long ways (horizontally).
  • Cut a semi-circle in the middle of the pencil.
  • Unfold the pencil. You should now have an oval in the middle of your pencil.
  • Take a writing tool and trace the outside of the pencil and then the inside of your new pencil circle.
  • Write your name inside the circle.

Use the pencil template on bulletin boards

Make an area in your classroom dedicated to a certain topic or for announcements. Print out the pencil printable and label an area on your bulletin board. Call out the “Student of the Week” or a section to showcase art masterpieces.

Use the pencil templates to communicate any message to your students!

Simply use it as a pencil banner (decorate your classroom with pencils!)

Available in this download is a page of blank pencils! Use these to make a simple pencil banner in your classroom. Use a hole punch and hang the banner using string. Free and easy classroom decorations for the school year.

How to Make the Pencil Letters Banner:

1. Print out the pencil banner of your choice or make your own with letters A-Z.

2. Laminate! You don’t have to laminate, but I would recommend you laminate all of our banners. It’s super easy and it turns our banners into long-lasting decorations.

3. Use a laminating pouch. Simply place the letter size paper into the letter size laminating sleeve.

4. Run the sleeve through the laminator (laminating is THAT easy).

6. Use a hole punch to make a hole on the top of each pencil.

7. Use string or yarn to connect them.

8. Hang your banner as a decoration in your at-home classroom or in your classroom at school!

It’s best to laminate

Like I said above, I recommend laminating all of our banners. Laminating gives the banners more permanence. Laminate any banner and you can use it year after year without worry or wearing or tearing.

I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend. You just turn it on, wait a few minutes for it to heat up, and you’re ready to start laminating anything and everything!

I’m also a big fan of the self-sealing laminating pouches! They are super easy! You literally just place your printable in a letter size pouch, run it through the laminator and you have a sealed and long-lasting item!

Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!

Fun facts about the pencil

  • On average, a pencil can be sharpened 17 times.
  • The word “pencil” comes from an Old French word “pincel” meaning “a small paintbrush.”
  • Pencils are actually not made of lead, but contain graphite (a form of carbon).
  • An average size tree can make about 300,000 pencils.
