Build Your Own Mermaid – Free Mermaid Printables

Are you looking for free mermaid printables? It’s summer and in our house everything is mermaid themed. My girls go swimming and they transform into mermaids. Then they are in the bath…again…they’re mermaids. Their imaginations just blow me away. And just last night my 5 year old asked for mermaid printable coloring pages? So, I thought to myself, “hey, this should be my next printable!”

Anyway, I wanted to do more than just mermaid coloring pages. So, I decided to turn this mermaid idea into a “build-your-own” mermaid, that you can color (or not), cut and create!

If your kids are in a mermaid craze right now (like mine are), this free mermaid template should surely keep your little one’s mermaid obsession at ease!

All about the Build a Mermaid Printables:

This Build Your Own Mermaid craft features 2 pages:

One page is the mermaid in black & white (without color) so she can be colored, cut out and put together.
If your kids aren’t a fan of coloring, there is a pre-colored version consisting of a colorful mermaid that can just be cut out and put together.

With either version, simply cut out the pieces and put the little mermaid together with a bit of glue/paste. Hang the mermaid on the fridge or give it away as a crafty gift. It’s that easy of a craft.

This is also a great homeschooling craft for preschoolers or kindergarteners. Not only does it give kids practice with scissors by putting the mermaid together, it  teaches kids how to work their brains creatively.

Need a little help putting it together? Below is what your mermaid printables will look like once assembled:

(Hint, make the hair the bottom most layer and every other piece should be layered on top. This way the hair will flow behind the mermaid).

Format: This printable comes in a PDF format and comes in two different sizes. Making it easy to print on any printer!

Go ahead and laminate

I recommend laminating all of our Build activities. Laminating gives this craft a bit more permanence. Kids can put the craft together over and over again without worrying about having to cut and color each time. I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend, you literally just turn it on, it heats up, and you’re ready to start laminating anything everything!

I’m also a big fan of the self-sealing laminating pouches! They are super easy! You literally just place your printable in a letter size pouch, run it through the laminator and you have a sealed and long-lasting item!

Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little self-adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!
