Build a Penguin | Free Printable Kids Craft

Penguins are some of the cutest birds on earth. They always look dressed for a special occasion and are always having fun with their other penguin pals but diving, swimming or huddling together to keep warm. How can you not like these sweet little seabirds?  Make a penguin craft with our free kids activity and celebrate these arctic guys..

Kindergarten students, preschool kids or even toddlers will love this penguin. A perfect craft for children of all ages.

Use this as a winter craft, a Christmas activity or use it year-round, because why not? Whatever the celebration, make your own penguin craft and celebrate these handsome little birds.

Not only is this activity simple, free and fun, but it is also educational. It promotes practicing with scissors and creatively using your brain by building and personalizing your very own penguin!

How to use our Build-a-Penguin printable:

As always, we have two different versions of the Build-a-Penguin available: a colored penguin and a black & white penguin. So your little one can choose whether or not they want to decorate the penguin with their own colors and decorations or have the penguin already colored and ready to cut out.

If you chose the black & white penguin template, first you will need to color it. Your child or student can get really creative and color it with their favorite colors. Maybe even add some sequins or glitter and make it extra fancy or glittery.

Next, simply cut out the pieces and put the penguin together with a bit of glue/paste. Or use double-sided tape if you want to avoid glue/paste altogether.

Then put your penguin on display! Hang your Build-a-Penguin on the fridge or use it as Christmas decoration. Looking to make a Christmas gift for a loved one? Give them your personalized penguin to spread some Christmas cheer!

Go ahead and laminate

I recommend laminating all of our Build activities. Laminating gives this craft a bit more permanence. Kids can put the craft together over and over again without worrying about having to cut and color each time. I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend, you literally just turn it on, it heats up, and you’re ready to start laminating anything everything!

I’m also a big fan of the self-sealing laminating pouches! They are super easy! You literally just place your printable in a letter size pouch, run it through the laminator and you have a sealed and long-lasting item!

Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little self-adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!
