Build Creative Thinking and Fine Motor Skills
Arts and crafts are wonderful for early learners! It teaches children how to open up and see the world in colors and have the option to choose what colors to use and how to put their craft together.
With our butterfly templates you can make your very own unique butterfly by using your favorites colors and decorations (throw in some sequins or glitter!).
Also, we can’t forget practicing with scissors! We all probably learned how to use scissors by cutting out some sort of arts and crafts or worksheet in school. Practice those fine motor skills by cutting out parts of the butterfly!

How to use the butterfly templates
Color your butterfly!
If your children are using the black & white (blank) version of the printable, that means it’s coloring time! The black & white version of the butterfly template can be used as a butterfly coloring page.
Grab your crayons and markers! Use your favorite colors to color the butterfly printable. This is what’s awesome about our butterfly templates — your children can get really creative with their color choices and show off their individuality. Did you know there are over 17,000 different species of butterflies in the world? Learn more about butterflies with Butterflies for Kids book that answers all of your kids butterfly questions.
Cut out the butterfly printable.
It’s time to practice with scissors! Cut out your colored butterfly template. Sometimes I find it easier to cut the parts in rectangular pieces and then cut each piece more precisely. I find it much easier to handle paper in smaller chunks.
These scissors are great for little kid’s hands. A perfect fit and has a rounded point for safety.
Glue or paste the butterfly pieces together.
Now that your butterfly template is colored and cut out. Grab that glue or paste and start putting the pieces together. Sometimes I like to paste the build activities on construction paper. It gives it even more a pop of color and it makes it easier to hang.
Now, use as some spring, summer or even every day decor! Or give the finished butterfly craft as a gift to show someone you care!

Go ahead and laminate
I recommend laminating all of our Build activities. Laminating gives this craft a bit more permanence. Kids can put the craft together over and over again without worrying about having to cut and color each time. I don’t use anything fancy, just a simple and easy laminator. This is the laminator I use and recommend, you literally just turn it on, it heats up, and you’re ready to start laminating anything everything!
I’m also a big fan of the self-sealing laminating pouches! They are super easy! You literally just place your printable in a letter size pouch, run it through the laminator and you have a sealed and long-lasting item!
Also, if you do choose to laminate, stick little self-adhesive velcro dots on the laminated pieces so your kids can attach and reattach easily. This eliminates the use of any messy glue!
